Sentry Feats, Scaling & Wincons
Sentry Blog: All Feats & Win Conditions
For starters, even during his earlier appearances, Sentry can physically contain a Cosmic Cube with his bare hands. An incomplete Cosmic Cube served as the source of power for the OG Beyonder while fully realized Cosmic Cubes such as Kubik can surpass and humiliate his defective peer outright. It's power can also enslave multiple Celestials, threaten the stability of the Multiverse, reshape vast portions of the Omniverse and rival the power of the Infinity Stones themselves, which are artifacts intrinsically tied to the structure of Eternity that are fully capable of hurting him.
Scaling:
However, with comic book scaling you can get him significantly higher such as when he matched World War Hulk in a direct stalemate. Notable considering Hulk at that point had already demonstrated enough strength to rival and shatter Onslaught’s armor even after it had been amplified through the power of Franklin Richards. Franklin possesses enough raw psionic and reality-warping power to mentally reshape the entirety of the Nexus of All Realities, a structure interpreted as rivaling the scale and scope of the White Hot Room. Fairly consistent with the time Sentry knocked out Blue Marvel, a character who effortlessly dispatched a Beyonder while also shown capable of no-selling an attack from Phoenix Taaia and matching her blow-for-blow with her inside the White Hot Room.
Additionally, Bob scales to Thor across multiple appearances, particularly during events such as Siege and various Avengers storylines, with one of his most impressive feats is matching King Thor. Thor has shown multiple feats of affecting and damaging Yggdrasil multiple times, such as when he shattered it's roots during a rampage, overpowered an engine that was empowered by it, shook it's entire structure with his cries as a baby and defeated M.Y.T.H.O.S who harbored it's full power as well. Even then, Sentry should bare minimum easily upscale Unworthy Thor, who was strong enough to hold his won against the assault from the Beyonders.
As merged Sentry, who accepts the Void as part of himself, he now seems to to possess the power of both his alter egos combined. As seen with how he went from losing to easily killing his former sidekick Scout. This is impressive since The Void was strong enough to overpower both Doctor Strange and Loki simultaneously, two of Marvel’s most powerful sorcerers. With said version of Strange had already received a permanent amp from the World Tree, meaning he should scale above his previous baseline feats at minimum. Those feats alone include repeatedly stalemating Dormammu, outmatching House of M Wanda and perhaps most impressively, singlehandedly halting the collapse of the Nexus of All Realities. Similarly, Loki is also shown to be an equal to Strange, and on his own can outclass the Enchantress, a sorcerer who once threatened the World Tree with her magical prowess. Not only that, the Void could dogwalk the Hulk not just once but twice, the same Hulk who can usually match Thor and bloodied Beta Ray Bill, who endured similar impressive beatings from Thor as well, making his scaling overall consistent for Sentry.
It should be very clear by now that Bob can go toe to toe and scale towards the very upper echelons of his own verse. I've yet to mention the time he overloaded the Absorbing Man, who had no problem absorbing the power of a Cosmic Cube, Dormammu's Enchantments, the Odinpower and Quasar's Quantum Bands or when he overwhelmed Molecule Man, the same guy who was strong enough to defeat the original Beyonder and usurp the power of his entire race while critically unstable at the time. He's shown capable of flying through a symbiote possessed Celestial with ease, casually kill the Cancerverse, overpower the combined strength of Beta Ray Bill, Captain Marvel, Gladiator, Quasar, Darkhawk and Smasher, easily kill Ares and match Genis-Vell, a guy who was strong enough to kill Multi-Eternity with the help of Entropy and later killing Entropy afterwards to revive Eternity. Better yet, going back by scaling him to Hulk and Thor, whom at their peak can break chains of the Omniverse while the latter could overpower and kill Demogorge, an Eternity level being considered to be the strongest amongst all the Elder Gods. I can also go back back to his scaling with the Beyonders, who only took three of them to wipe out the Multiversal Abstracts.
Conclusion?
All in all, not only does Sentry consistently scale comparable to or outright above multiple characters capable of fighting and even overcoming Beyonders (i.e. Unworthy Thor, Blue Marvel and Molecule Man), but he also scales alongside characters who scales to the White Hot Room, a domain that eclipses the Beyonders themselves in cosmological scope (i.e. Onslaught, Blue Marvel and Doctor Strange). Regardless, Sentry’s strongest overall scaling likely comes through his relativity to both Thor and Hulk, characters repeatedly portrayed as capable of affecting the structure of the Omniverse through sheer power alone, with the placement of Multi-Eternity and the peak of Yggdrasil being interchangeably interpreted as either directly below or (more likely imo) above the House of Ideas.
Advantages:
Equipment & Intelligence:
An AI assistant tied to Sentry that manages the Watchtower while also accompanying him through a smaller drone-like unit. It specializes in battlefield support, capable of tracking targets, analyzing powers and psychological state and providing real-time tactical information to greatly assist Sentry during battle by continuously supplying tactical analysis, strategic adjustments and real-time information regarding SBP. This would allow Sentry to formulate more effective maneuvers, adapt mid-fight and potentially exploit weaknesses or openings that could disrupt Prime’s momentum.
Power:
Not only does Marvel slightly outscale DC's cosmology in size and scope, with Superboy Prime at best would scale to the highest end of his verse save the Overvoid. This would instead place him around the level of the Source and the Greater Omniverse, which sits above 5 layers High-Outerversal sized realms (The Source/Greater Omniverse > Source Wall > 6th Dimension > 5th Dimension > Divine Continuum > Monitor Sphere) while Sentry can match that level of power by scaling to Thor, Hulk and Genis-Vell affecting Multi-Eternity and Yggdrasil's entire structure, which encompass everything within creation except the House of Ideas under a more conservative interpretation (Multi-Eternity > Yggdrasil's Peak > Yggdrasil's Body > Land-Of-Couldn't-Be-Shouldn't-Be > White Hot Room > Beyond). However, it should be noted that Sentry can scale even higher via another interpretation, that being Multi-Eternity and Yggdrasil's Peak encompassing everything including the House of Ideas, capping him an additional layer of power that reaches around 6 to 7 layers into High-Outerversal. Outclassing Prime slightly in strength and overall power, though still by a sufficient margin to prove highly effective due to the immense importance that stats hold in this battle as even a minor advantage should be more than enough to tip the scales.
Versatility:
Despite often being regarded as a prime example of metanarrative-level abilities, Prime does not demonstrate particularly precise or consistent control over the narrative itself, and his overall scope of application appears somewhat limited when compared to Sentry who by contrast, displays a broader and more versatile range of powers, most notably his energy manipulation, which includes conventional absorption and projection for offensive purposes, as well as the creation of solid constructs reminiscent of a Green Lantern and an aura capable of inducing calm in others. He further demonstrates creative applications of these abilities such as generating large-scale vortices and bending light to render himself invisible. He also appears to rapidly develop proficiency in matter manipulation at a level comparable to, if not exceeding Molecule Man. In addition, he is capable of transmuting objects, as shown when he transformed a rock into a Healing Orb and can alter other people's perception on an external level. His resilience is equally notable, allowing him to recover even after being reduced to a molecular state of annihilation, requiring only his soul as an anchor for restoration. Beyond this, he is also shown manipulating souls directly, overwhelming opponents with intrusive recollections of their deepest fears, causing people to go mad with his telepathy, distorting reality, physically ripping apart the fabric of space-time and negate durability with his infinitendrills.
Skill & Experience:
I think this is fairly self-explanatory. Sentry is portrayed as a veteran hero widely regarded as the the greatest figure of his era. While I do think it is understandable to question that reputation, especially since aspects of his history were retroactively inserted in a way that can feel somewhat contrived, his debut stories still provide ample insight into how strategic, mature and intelligent he truly is. This is reflected through his past experiences with the Fantastic Four, his mentorship of Angel within the X-Men and even his complicated relationship with the Hulk. Sentry also has consistently demonstrated remarkable intellect. He was capable of engineering CLOC, keeping pace intellectually with Reed Richards and battling highly experienced opponents such as Thor and Ares, overwhelming powerhouses like Hulk and even confronting cosmic entities such as Galactus. Combined with CLOC’s analytical support, Sentry should reasonably hold a decisive advantage here.
Wincons & Counters:
SBP's Retcon Punch:
His most iconic moveset, the Retcon Punch. Which made it's debut when Prime shattered the walls of the Paradise Dimension, triggering widespread changes to reality and continuity itself. In the process, it acted as a corrective force for the newly formed universe, eliminating the inconsistencies and contradictory histories created when the multiverse collapsed and merged during the events of the Crisis on Infinite Earths. Resulting in the resurrection Jason Todd, the reboot of Doom Patrol where he created multiple versions and origins of characters such as Hawkman, Superman, Donna Troy and Metal Man. It also rewrote the criminal record of Hal Jordan and even altered the metafictional narrative of the "Imaginary Stories Reject", rewriting the story crafted by The Darkest Knight from a horrific and tragic existence into a peaceful one.
However, there are arguments and counters for this:
- Sentry has repeatedly endured attacks from Thor's lightning even one that was amped by the Norn Stone. This is particularly noteworthy because Thor's lightning is the brother of the Secret Fire within Marvel's Norse myth, which is the source of the Light and the Stories and where all stories were forged. As in myth, so too in Marvel, as these forces are intrinsically tied to the creation of the House of Ideas. A connection further reinforced during Loki's ascension as the God of Stories, where Odin affirms that Thor's lightning is ultimately destined and capable of extinguishing the Secret Fire itself.
- Additionally, the Secret Fire is also heavily referenced as the Phoenix Force's flame emanating from the White Hot Room. If you don't know, the Phoenix's flames is the cosmologically unified energy of creation, with the White Hot Room being described as a realm of pure creativity, a metaphysical space from which existence and nonexistence emerge while also functioning as the blank white page upon which stories, possibilities, and endings are written.
- Sentry has endured blasts of pure Yggdrasil-derived magical energy wielded by an empowered Doctor Strange. This is particularly significant given Yggdrasil's role within Marvel's cosmology under Al Ewing's interpretation. The World Tree serves as the physical representation of the Kabbalistic philosophical structure underpinning reality, with it's branches and roots permeated by stories that flow through every character, setting and realm of existence.
- Yggdrasil is simply the All-Power that supports the structure of the Crown of All Creation (also known as the House of Ideas) and is even suggested to be the underlying reason behind every retcons. During the final remaining cycle of Ragnarok, the destruction of the World Tree severed the flow of stories from the House of Ideas and cutting off the very source upon which Those-Who-Sit-Above-And-In-Shadows had long fed.
- Sentry also demonstrated partial resistance to Wanda's reality/narrative-altering effects during the House of M event. Not only was House of M stated to affect the entire Omniverse (likely Multi-Eternity), but the feat itself can be viewed as scaling either above or below the House of Ideas depending on one's interpretation of Marvel's cosmology.
- Personally, I find the former take more consistent. Wanda's hex power repeatedly harmed Chaos, a being comparable to Multi-Eternity. Beyond this, Wanda has also displayed the ability to obstruct the very Light emanating from the House of Ideas itself. The narration places particular emphasis on this feat, describing that Light as nothing less than the full expression of Marvel's creative force.
- Additionally, Wanda also possesses Hex Magic, which on it's own possesses countless layers of haxes including reality warping, causality manipulation, subjective reality, probability manipulation and many more.
- Sorcerer Supreme Loki explicitly admitted that he could not and doesn't know any way to stop him. Given Loki’s status as a Sorcerer Supreme at the time and an already High-Tier Sorcerer comparable to Strange, this carries significant weight as this level of mastery is typically associated with access to high-order magic, including spell manipulations over concepts, plot structure, causality and countless other examples.
- Sentry, like many of Marvel's more unique entities, possesses an unusual physiology. In Robert's case, this is reflected through his connection to the Void, his dark counterpart and alter ego, which has demonstrated characteristics consistent with Angel Physiology. It has been described as the Angel of Death and was even portrayed as one of the divine agents sent by God during the original Passover, tasked with carrying out the death of Egypt's firstborn.
- This provides Sentry with some useful powers such as supernatural luck, as an undercover angel on earth could initiate miracles for the needy simply by rubbing his halo and an old woman once was blessed with good luck just by marrying them. Allowing a minor advantage in probability where the very randomness effect that Superboy Prime's Retcon Punch operates around, found it working distastefully in his favour. Nonetheless, a better buff from this Physiology would give Sentry God Physiology attributes that I'll be detailing it below.
- Last but not least, Sentry's provided with God Physiology, as it's described that the a war between Angels and Spirits of Vengeances would be a war between Gods. If you've already the clicked the link, than I bet you should be somewhat impressed by sheer magnitude of abilities and resistances that God Physiology provides. Regardless I'll be listing only the most useful resistances to SBP's arsenal and Retcon Punch.
- In Marvel's cosmology, being a god means embodying a wealth of myths, stories and symbolic significance. This grants them greater metaphysical resilience, alllowing such beings to withstand the light emanating from the House of Ideas that was projecting a deconstructive force with the power of "all forces in creation". The same effects of House of Ideas passively manipulates the plot, narratives, stories, retcons and every possibility and eventuality that exists within Marvel.
Retcon Punch Overrated
Despite it's hype and visual spectacle, SBP’s Retcon Punch is often overstated in discussions of comic book abilities and fictional power scaling in general. To properly evaluate it, it’s necessary to examine each instance in which the Retcon Punch is actually used and consider the context and limitations surrounding those feats.
Example #1, Example #2, Example #3, Example #4, Example #5, Example #6, Example #7, Example #8, Example #9, Example #10 and Example #11.
Firstly, I think it's important to consider the context surrounding these examples. Points 1 through 7 all occur under circumstances involving direct cosmological interference or instability. Instances 1–3 and 7 take place during Infinite Crisis, where Superboy-Prime escapes the Paradise Dimension amidst the collapse and restructuring of the multiverse itself. Likewise, points 4–5 and 11 occur during Death Metal, a period in which the Darkest Knight had already reshaped and aligned the Last 52 Multiverse, fundamentally altering the cosmological landscape and potentially influencing how Prime's abilities functioned.
Point 6 is also somewhat distinct, as it involves Prime breaking free from the Phantom Zone, a separate dimensional construct rather than a conventional example of reality manipulation or (meta-)narrative alteration. As for points 8–10, I would argue that they are not examples of retcon punches in the traditional sense. In those instances, Prime is shown escaping Doomsday's pocket universe and physically forcing his way through time itself. While undeniably impressive, these feats are portrayed more as demonstrations of basic dimensional travel than direct acts of narrative reconstruction.
As such, you have to account for the context that actually enables those feats to function. Superboy-Prime’s large-scale reality warping or retcon effects only occur under specific conditions typically involving external dimensional instability or Crisis-level anomalies. During Infinite Crisis, for example, the Paradise Dimension was already destabilized and the resulting effects were chaotic and random, rewriting aspects of continuity in an uncontrolled manner. Similarly, in Death Metal, the convergence of the Last 52 universes created a highly abnormal cosmological environment and it is within this context that Prime was able to alter a single Superman’s home universe. A a feat that visibly strained him and nearly proved fatal when he escalated the effect against the Darkest Knight. This suggests his ability is not a form of consistent on-demand narrative control but rather a conditional power that is both situational and costly to use at scale.
Cosmology Revision:
What suggests that Interpretation Cosmology #2 from Marvel being the most valid and ?
This blog of mine details it in a better way but to make it short, Multi-Eternity is portrayed with a set of overlapping cosmological attributes that position him as the highest governing structure within his hierarchy. The central point of this interpretation is that he encompasses the Far Shore, in which it's described as "the furthest shore of Eternity". Also known consistently as the largest existing void within Marvel's setting, repeatedly associated with cycles of death and renewal, a medium completely outside of the very functions of life and death that allows for transitioning or evolution of the deathless and timeless stature of the Omniverse such as Eternity himself. This interpretation is then reinforced by the equation of the Far Shore being referenced as Ginnungagap itself, which is considered as the primordial void within Norse Myth that predates creation and formed the birthplace of the World Tree. Yggdrasil is portrayed as a fundamental axis of existence whose highest conceptual layer aligns with the House of Ideas. If the Far Shore functions as the originating void for Yggdrasil and Yggdrasil in turn structurally interfaces with the House of Ideas, this creates a continuous cosmological chain linking Eternity’s totality to that same upper metaphysical tier.
Combined with how Eternity is framed countless times as the personification of all levels of infinity and reality within creation, the sum and total of all forces in existence, with everything and everyone simply being miniscule afterthoughts of one celestial all-encompassing consciousness. The Far Shore is therefore understood not as something truly external to Eternity but as part of his broader structural totality. This is further supported by the concept of the Galactus Seed, where it's said to be a piece of Multi-Eternity himself, his "eternal soul" and "the heart of everything" that later nurtured into Yggdrasil. It is depicted as capable of ending Galactus' hunger, something that even the consumption of the entire Eighth Omniverse fail to achieve. Eternity also harbored children who oversees creation within the House of Ideas alongside existing equally with the Griever at The End of All Things and Queen of Nevers, with Griever representing the Far Shore and Never Queen, a former Cosmos who Eternity outgrew. As Eternity is understood to contain both of these figures as aspects of himself in the same way he encompasses the Multiversal Abstracts that inhabit the Superflow including the likes of Living Tribunal, functioning as mere inner workings through which his various cosmic aspects and processes are expressed.
Shouldn't DC outscale Marvel via the Great Darkness?
Great cosmological question. However, more recent clarifications have made the structure considerably easier to understand, while also placing greater restrictions on how high the Great Darkness can reasonably be scaled. The Great Darkness was once interpreted as operating at High Outerversal+ levels due to it's portrayal as the primordial void that preceded creation, even it's own creator. This led to comparisons with concepts such as DeMatteis' Oblivion, where it could be viewed as an essential counterpart or byproduct of an effectively Tier 0 character or what we also call as Boundless.
This interpretation becomes increasingly difficult to maintain when examining it's relationship with other foundational structures in DC's cosmology as both The Source and The Presence have increasingly been associated with the concept of the Light of Creation. At first glance, this appears to conflict with their earlier identification with the Overvoid, as the Light of Creation is portrayed as a force of life and existence that emerges in opposition to, and is preceded by, the Great Darkness, rather than an absolute, non-dual state of nothingness. However, The New Gods (2025) #12 provides important clarification by depicting The Source as possessing a pure, pre-creational state: a white emptiness of unrealized potential that exists prior to creation itself. This distinction helps reconcile the apparent contradiction by separating The Source's absolute, transcendent state from it's manifested aspect as the Light of Creation.
From this perspective, the Light of Creation is best understood as the post-creational or manifest aspect of The Source and The Presence as the first knowable expression of existence itself. Their fundamental nature, however, remains identical to the Overvoid, an absolute state that transcends all space, time, causality, duality, hierarchy and conceptual definition. The Light of Creation is preceded by the Great Darkness, with the two functioning as conceptual opposites. The Light represents life and creation, while the Great Darkness represents the absence and negation of creation. With the Great Darkness being described as the "first contradiction," emerging spontaneously as a property of the Overvoid itself. Better yet, even the awakening of the Great Darkness, as depicted in Swamp Thing, unfolds according to God's plan established since the beginning of time, rather than existing independently of the absolute. With Darkseid as an aspect of the Great Darkness, operates within this divine framework as a necessary force of conquest, conflict and upheaval within the Multiverse.
In essence, instead of a pre-determined and indefinite void that preceeded creation and it's entire creator, it's a another form of manifestation of creation of teh Overvoid spontaneously emanated alongside it's counterpart the Light of Creation during the events o Let there beLight
Arguments against Sentry's Wincons + Anti-Feats
"Knull no-diffed Sentry."
While true, occasional anti-feats do not meaningfully undermine Sentry, as virtually all heralds possess inconsistencies or situational losses that can be used to downscale them. In that sense, focusing heavily on his defeat against Knull is somewhat disproportionate. Knull himself is portrayed as an extremely powerful cosmic threat capable of contending with a Herald of None Thor, who was depicted killing what actually is the strongest version of Galactus while holding his own against a Black Winter, and Knull himself slew three Celestials while they were initiating the Big Bang of 7th Cosmos. However, Sentry’s situation during his encounter with Knull is also important contextually. The narrative strongly suggests that Sentry was not operating at full resistance, as he was willingly accepting death rather than fighting to persist.

However, Sentry’s situation during his encounter with Knull is also important contextually. The narrative strongly suggests that Sentry was not operating at full resistance, as he was willingly accepting death rather than fighting to persist.
Even if we take it that he was physically overwhelmed, the implication that his destruction was not an absolute limitation of his power, but a reflection of his psychological state and desire for release. His later return further reinforces the idea that his defeat was not permanent or fully representative of his upper limits, of course, this is even before mentioning the fact that Knull is the Lord of the All-Black, which has insane immortality negation and existence erasure to wipe out all gods across all of time and space, a feat unachievable even through the power of the House of Ideas.
"Molecule Man's power level varies in psychological states."
So does Hulk’s strength scaling directly with his rage, Thor with how much he's willing to hold back and Gladiator’s performance being heavily influenced by his confidence. Variability of power tied to mental or emotional condition is a well-established pattern among high-tier characters. It is not a unique trait or weakness, even Sentry operates under a similar mechanic where his strength is also affected by his psychological stability. And to be completely fair, during the events were their battle took place, dude was clearly unstable and is constantly tweaking out. Despite this, he was still able to rapidly adapt and demonstrate molecular-level manipulation after being unexpectedly erased more than once. Mind you, this instability is further contextualized by the Dark Avengers run, which directly builds into the events of Siege, where Bob's mental state deteriorates further into complete breakdown and loss of control.
Should Sentry actually gain God Physiology?
As outlined above, there is little reason to dismiss this interpretation outright. Within Marvel, Angels are beings function similarly to other established divine pantheons, such as the Asgardians of Norse mythology, the Olympians of Greek mythology and various higher-dimensional entities like Hell-Lords. Angels are likewise portrayed as operating within explicitly divine realms, including narratives in which forces of Heaven engage in war with Hell, further reinforcing their status as part of a structured theological hierarchy.
In this context, the Void’s characterization as an angel is not inherently inconsistent. It has also been speculated that the Void and Sentry’s power source may be connected to the Judeo-Christian God or alternatively that Robert Reynolds is empowered by a comparable divine or analogous cosmic force.
This is further supported by the broader presence of Void-like entities within Marvel cosmology. Figures such as Knull, Chaos King, Nyx, the Tiger God, Griever, etc are all associated with abyssal or void-based aspects of existence and are treated as divine or godlike within their respective frameworks. These entities often function as representations of layered or overlapping voids between higher planes of reality, reinforcing the idea that “void” itself can be a structured and multi-tiered aspect of Marvel’s cosmology rather than a singular absence.
Miscellaneous
Across everything already discussed, there is still far more to unpack regarding Marvel’s layered cosmology and the often-understated complexity of it's overlapping abilities, entities and metaphysical hierarchies. The interactions between these systems are rarely explored in full depth. There are still aspects worth addressing, such as Phoenix Taaia within the White Hot Room dwarfing even the fully matured Beyonder in firepower, and God of Stories Loki being shown to capable of easily imprisoning him in a narrative arc. Which is insane given how this is the same Beyonder who managed to liberate himself from the bindings of The One Above All by escaping the House of Ideas to venture into the House of Mystery. Likewise, there's Thor’s feat of physically toppling Tiwaz, who is the elder god of wisdom, winter and victory. The true author + progenitor of the Norse gods, beyond the sight of storytelling. Sentry can potentially gain High-Godly Regen via prayers, as seen with how only a single prayer helped Thor recover from Glory's Quantum Tsunami that tore apart his soul, body, mind, psyche and his very own sense of self.
Conclusion?
TL;DR: Sentry's advantages are the mixture of:
Thank you for your time and I hope you have a good day.
- Near equal but overall higher in power and durability.
- Greater variety of abilities that can counter SBP.
- Strong resistance to SBP's Retcon Punch.
- Conquers multiple other important categories including intelligence, skill and experience.
- Immortality and God Physiology are unanswerable for Prime.
- This leads to better stamina, as Retcon Punches are draining while Sentry is inexhaustible.
- Better written.
Thank you for your time and I hope you have a good day.
