Cycle of Dreams

To avoid misunderstandings, we first clarify the meaning of some terms. "IT" refers to the dreaming entity itself, which we call the true form. "Ultima" serves as the designation for all avatars within the dream.

First, let's examine the discussion about the dream within a dream in the prologue:

《それ》は、過去の夢を見ており、過去において未来の夢を見ており、過去において未来の夢を見るという夢を未来において見続けていた。《それ》にとって現在と呼ぶことができるものがあったとしたなら、過去と未来が好き放題に絡み合って可能性の限りを尽くした、あらゆる夢の集合体というのが最も近い。

《それ》は夢から醒さめる夢から醒め、またその夢から醒める夢を見ていた。夢の中で夢を見てまた夢見ていた。どこまでいってもその繰り返しに果てはなく、《それ》が見ているものは決して醒めることのできない夢で、誰も入り込むことのできない夢とも言えた。

"It" was dreaming of the past, dreaming of the future in the past, and continued dreaming of dreaming of the future in the past into the future. If there was something that "it" could call the present, it would be closest to a collective of every possible dream where the past and future intertwined freely to their fullest potential.

"It" was waking from a dream of waking from a dream and then dreaming of waking from that dream. Dreaming within a dream, and then dreaming again. No matter how far it went, there was no end to this repetition, and what "it" was seeing could be said to be an unending dream from which it could never wake, a dream into which no one could intrude.

This clearly illustrates a nested dream structure. Initially, A0 intended to use this concept to argue for an infinite hierarchy of R>F layers, drawing from the evident passage describing the endless recursion of dreams within dreams within dreams, and sought to elevate this interpretation to a 1-A+ classification.

However, we couldn't explain why the dreams were of the past and future, and couldn't directly demonstrate that one dream was superior to another, rather than just being an intertwining of possibilities from the past and future of a single universe. This inability to provide further substantiation led to the upgrade failure.

We realized we had been too hasty, but we did not give up. We delved deeper into the text, trying to uncover the true nature of the dream. After a period of research, we finally found the argument for the transcendent hierarchy of the dream within a dream.

First, we must dispel the misconception that the dream is merely a convergence of possibilities scattered across different points in time within a single universe. According to this passage, it becomes evident that Ultima is an existence that transcends and traverses the entirety of the timeline itself:

過去から未来を縦断しているゴジラが未来において

Godzilla, who traverses from the past to the future, in the future

But how does Ultima view the past and future?

小さなものを積み上げて、大きなものを形成する。
無駄なものをつくって捨てる。
梯子を使って登った後はそれを忘れる。
《それ》には目標地点へと至る数多の経路が見通せた。
手堅く太い道があり、危うく素早いやり方があった。
海から上がった姿をもとに、ゆっくりと姿を変えていく方法があり、劇的に違うものへ転換する方法があった。一旦は小さく分かれるという戦略があり、ゆっくり大きくのびやかに育つ方策があった。
《それ》の前にはあらゆる可能性が拓けていた。
《それ》が注意を向けさえすれば、あまりに明確な未来と過去が今を起点に展開し、それら全てが今と変わらぬ堅固さを帯びた。

Stacking small things to form something big. Creating and discarding useless things. Forgetting the ladder after climbing up.

"It" could see countless paths leading to the target point. There was a solid and broad way, and a risky and swift method. There was a way to slowly transform based on the form that emerged from the sea, and a way to drastically convert into something different. There was a strategy to temporarily divide into smaller parts, and a plan to grow slowly and expansively.

Before "it," all possibilities were open.

If "it" merely focused its attention, an extremely clear future and past unfolded from the present, and all of them possessed the same solidity as the present.

For Ultima, the future and the flow of time are tangible realities to be selected, not mere dreams. This directly contradicts the portrayal of dreams in the prologue and does not align with the concept of a “dream within a dream.” Therefore, it cannot simply represent the past and future of a single universe.

Instead, the dreams of the past and future described in the prologue refer to Ultima’s experiences prior to its ascension into IT or more precisely, to the past that IT retroactively constructed for itself, shaping its own existence across the boundaries of causality and perception.

For beings experiencing linear time, their future is determined by decisions made in their past. The future is uncertain. But for IT, it is a determined future that decides its past. No matter how different the past experiences are, the final outcome is fixed.

This point is actually indicated in the prologue.

《それ》は自分のはじまりを終わりを、終わりのはじまりをはじまりの終わりを終わりの終わりをはじまりのはじまりを知ってはいたが、そうした始点や終点さえ、自らを構成する凡庸な 構成要素にすぎず、なんら特別な記憶や夢や知識とはみなしていなかった。

どの繰り返しの流れにも同じものはひとつとしてなく、流れの中のほんのわずかな揺らぎが夢を記憶を全く予期もしない方角へと導いていく。現実は記憶であって、記憶は現実と変わるところが何もなかった。

It knew its own beginning and end, the end of the beginning, the beginning of the end, and even the end of the end and the beginning of the beginning, but regarded these starting and ending points as mere mundane components of its composition, not as any special memory, dream, or knowledge.

There was not a single repetition of flow that was identical, and slight fluctuations within the flow led dreams and memories in entirely unforeseen directions. Reality was memory, and memory was no different from reality.

This indicates that dreams are, for IT, memories and also reality, parts that constitute it. In other words, they are the events it has already experienced that it created.

Ultima's ability is similar. The novel uses a fictional substance as an example: once a future is anchored, no matter how the past changes, it will not affect the outcome, even laws of nature must make way for it. The Red Dust created by Ultima has a similar ability.

Furthermore, Enjoe is a staunch supporter of determinism. Almost all characters in his work SRE share similar characteristics. This should be unquestionable.

And tearing the Omega Point is what is called "awakening." Ultima continuously fights, grows, and transcends the world it is in, constantly evolving towards IT. This is the continuous awakening described in the prologue. Tearing the Omega Point is the method of awakening and reaching another dream layer.

But this raises several problems:

1. How to prove that the difference before and after Ultima tears the Omega Point is a qualitative change, not a quantitative one?

2. According to the rules, except for Tier 0 characters, characters at H1-A+ and below can be reached through growth. However, characters above 1-A cannot be reached with the help of resources from lower-tier worlds. Resources of the same tier or higher must be used. The Omega Point and Singularity Point are existences with spacetime properties. They belong to the L1-A tier. Therefore, without external help, one cannot reach it on their own.

Regarding the first point.

First, let's consider the statement that the Singular Point is a hole outside spacetime.

This statement was one of the most important pieces of evidence for Ultima having R>F. Initially, this argument wasn't accepted because we initially thought "spacetime" referred to 3-dimensional spacetime. But now we know that the so-called "spacetime" actually refers to the entirety of spacetime encompassing infinite dimensions or even dimensions with larger cardinalities. This is also one of the pieces of evidence for IT's later upgrade to 1-A. But the Omega Point's essence is still constituted by the entirety of spacetime. Because it has a physical composition, it is L1-A. However, the Omega Point is not the ultimate goal of Ultima's evolution.

そこにひとつの終幕があり、東京のゴジラは次元のあちら側へと成長し、この特異点さえ引き裂くだろう。

There lies an end, where the Godzilla of Tokyo will grow beyond dimensions and even tear this singularity apart.

This sentence indicates that Ultima will continuously grow and ultimately surpass the Omega Point. Combined with the previous understanding that the Omega Point is the entirety of spacetime and the Singularity Point is a hole in the TV screen, one could say that Ultima tearing the Omega Point, this entirety of spacetime, is like a person inside a TV breaking the TV screen to reach the world where the TV exists. This is a qualitative change in growth.

Of course, some might refute this. Tearing the Omega Point doesn't necessarily mean transcending the physical world. Spacetime having more than four dimensions doesn't mean spacetime encompasses all physical space. Tearing the Omega Point could simply mean reaching higher dimensions, still not being transcendent.

This line of thinking might be caused by the phrase 次元のあちら側. This phrase translates to English as "On the other side of the dimension." It seems to imply just growth into higher dimensions. But actually, the meaning of this phrase can also refer to the boundary of dimensions. Regarding this, I asked some people who understand Japanese. He said that the character 側 can represent "realm" or "direction." This direction not only refers to a direction emanating from a central point but can also refer to inside and outside. Just like the outside of a box is called 箱の外側 in Japanese. あちら is a distant demonstrative pronoun, referring to a place, direction, or thing far from both the speaker and the listener. It can also refer to the outside. The segment ゴジラは次元のあちら側へと成長し can be fully understood as Ultima growing towards the boundary of all dimensions, ultimately growing to a world outside dimensions, transcending dimensions themselves.

If this segment were written as 次元の側 or より高い次元, then it couldn't be interpreted this way. But since it's あちら側, it absolutely can be understood as such.

There is another argument: Ultima was defeated by a method that does not exist.

そこでは、ゴジラは存在しないやり方で倒されたのだということだってありうる。

It's possible that Godzilla was defeated in a way that doesn't exist there.

This aligns with the prologue's description of Ultima continuously failing, yet continuously defeating its own failures.

《それ》は幾度も打ち倒され、叩きのめされ、立ちはだかるものを打ち倒し、叩きのめし、圧倒してきたが、それすらも、《それ》にとってはほとんどどうでもよい事柄だった。《それ》は何度でも似たような相手とまみえ、何度でも新たな相手と出会い、何度でも戦いを繰り返し、自らが完全に勝利するまで、勝利してからのちも、永遠に闘争を繰り返していた。

"It" had been knocked down and beaten many times, had knocked down and overwhelmed its obstacles, but even that was a matter of little consequence to "it." "It" had faced similar opponents over and over, encountered new opponents countless times, and repeatedly fought again and again, continuing its struggle eternally until it achieved complete victory, and even after that victory.

We know that as Ultima approached the end times, it had already become an existence capable of becoming all possibilities.

という問いに関して、もはや何かの予想を立てることは困難であり、この時点でゴジラはあらゆるものになりうる存在に達したともいえる。

Regarding this question, it has become difficult to make any predictions, and it can be said that, at this point, Godzilla has reached a state where it can become anything.

And no enemy within spacetime could defeat it.

そうした事態ははじめてではなく、これまでにも何度か経験しており、そのたびに《それ》は、その相手を打ち倒し、未来に広がる霧を吹き払ってきた。

This situation is not the first time; it has been experienced several times before, and each time "it" has struck down the opponent and cleared away the fog that spreads into the future.

This means that whatever defeated Ultima must have been some existence or event from outside spacetime. If it existed within spacetime, it shouldn't be invisible, and Perro 3 wouldn't call it a 存在しないやり方!

And according to the prologue, we know that Ultima ultimately overcomes this failure. This means it transcended interference from the outside. It's a transcendence of transcendence. And this has happened several times. Considering its nature, these failures likely all came from higher layers.

Now let's address the other problem: that Outer-tier characters cannot use resources lower than themselves to grow.

This is very easy to explain, because Ultima's growth, whether in the anime or novel, is never mentioned as being fueled by matter within the universe:

そこにひとつの終幕があり、東京のゴジラは次元のあちら側へと成長し、この特異点さえ引き裂くだろう。

There is an ending there, and Godzilla of Tokyo will grow to the other side of the dimension and tear apart even this singularity.

Neither of these statements suggest that anything within the universe contributed to its growth. Rather, they imply that the universe itself was incapable of enduring that growth and ultimately collapsed under its own limitations.

The prologue describes it as follows:

自らの敗北までも打ち倒し、自らが敗北する世界 の全てを滅ぼしてきた

I have defeated even my own defeats and destroyed all worlds where I would be defeated.

This sentence also shows that Ultima's attitude towards the universe is one of destruction, not using it as some kind of fuel.

Although it needs spacetime as a vessel in this world, it mostly utilizes and distorts it, standing above it.

《それ》は地球表面の五分の一ほどの領域へすでに腕を伸ばしていた。《それ》は地球を網で包み込むような姿で、地球を含む近傍宇宙へと、今も浮上しつつあった。こことは異なる次元へ腕を伸ばして、その領域を拡大していた。

その歪みは時間方向へも及び、特異点の周囲にはCTCが形成されている。クローCズド・タイムラTイク・カーCブ、いわゆる「時間的閉曲線」は、時空間内に描かれ、閉じられた輪だ。てっとりばやくタイムマシンと言ってしまって構わない。未来へ行って、また起点へと戻ってくる。

そんな種類の「歪み」が時空間に生じるならば、周囲には絶大な影響が及ぶはずなのだが、現実問題としては十メートルも距離をとれば影響はほんの小さなものとなる。重力の異常はすぐに観測されなくなり、電磁波の放射もささやかなものだ。そのあたりが、研究所内で、シヴァは「物理法則を破り」、「破り方さえ破る」と言われる所以である。つまりは未知の物理現象が極めて狭い範囲に集中し、封じ込められている格好である。

"It" had already extended its reach to about one-fifth of the Earth's surface. In a form that enveloped the Earth with a net, "it" was still rising toward the nearby cosmos, including the Earth.

It was extending its arm to a different dimension, expanding its domain. The distortion also extended in the time direction, with a CTC forming around the singularity. A Closed Timelike Curve, or a so-called "closed time loop," is a closed loop depicted within spacetime. You might as well call it a time machine, it goes to the future and then returns to the starting point. If such a kind of "distortion" were to occur in spacetime, it would supposedly have an enormous impact on the surroundings, but in practical terms, even at a distance of ten meters, the impact becomes quite small.

The gravitational anomalies soon become unobservable, and the electromagnetic radiation is minor. This is why, within the research facility, Shiva is said to "break the laws of physics" and even "break the way they are broken." In other words, unknown physical phenomena are extremely concentrated and contained in a narrow area.

All of this indicates that spacetime has very little effect on it. As it grows, its influence on spacetime increases, ultimately causing the destruction of the world and evolving into the Omega Point.

And the Omega Point is merely a byproduct of its growth. The essence of the Omega Point is a paradoxical ensemble formed when the calculated possible futures of Singularity Points conflict with each other, causing spacetime to be unable to bear it, leading all possible futures to collide at a certain point in time.

自然の中で真性のパラドックスが引き起こされた場合に何が起こるのかは誰も知らない。未だ、自然がそんな事態に見舞われたことがないからである。ただ一度、宇宙誕生の瞬間にはそんなことがあったかもしれない、とは言われる。

問題となるのは「超自然現象から生み出されるパラドックス」で、このパラドックスが自然にやさしいものであるかどうかは、全くなんの保障もない。なぜなら、そのパラドックスは自然由来のものではないからで、自然が滅びようと宇宙の法則がねじ曲がろうと何も感じず、気にしないという可能性があるからである。

No one knows what might happen if a true paradox arises in nature, as nature has never encountered such a situation. It is said that such an occurrence might have happened just once, at the moment of the universe's birth.

The issue at hand is the "paradox produced by supernatural phenomena," and there is absolutely no guarantee that this paradox will be kind to nature. This is because the paradox does not originate from nature, and there is the possibility that it does not feel or care even if nature were to perish or the laws of the universe were to be twisted.

Therefore, although the Omega Point is a form that Ultima takes at a certain stage of its evolution, it's more like a byproduct. It is not the necessary final step for its growth, nor is it the fuel required for its growth.

The novel does indeed mention its energy source.

力の流れの源についてはわからない。起源を求めて遡ったこともあるのだが、その流れは絶えることなく淀むことなく、河のようにただひたすらに流れ続けていた。

《それ》にとって、数多あまたの支流は自らの体の一部にすぎなかったが、支流の方ではまた違った考え方があるようだった。ときに支流は、自らが本流なのだと勘違いして本流に挑みかかるのだったが、支流には飢えがあって渇きがあった。

I do not know the source of the flow of power. I have tried tracing it back to its origin, but the flow continued without ceasing or stagnating, relentlessly flowing like a river. 

To "it," the myriad tributaries were merely parts of its own body, but it seemed the tributaries had a different perspective. At times, the tributaries mistakenly believed they were the main stream and challenged it, yet the tributaries were both hungry and thirsty.

This mentions that Ultima's energy source comes from a place even it doesn't know, gushing out infinitely and powering other kaiju.

《それ》は何かの流れであったが、どこかの宇宙に属する種類の流れではなかった。

"It" was a kind of flow, but not the type that belongs to any universe.

When this is combined with the statement that Ultima’s essence exists outside the universe, along with the description of the Singular Point as a literal hole in spacetime, a clearer picture emerges. Ultima is not merely a higher-dimensional being within the system but an existence operating at a 1-A, drawing upon trans-cosmic resources to grow, a process that is explicitly tied to IT’s power. This framework supports the idea that Ultima, through IT, undergoes continuous growth and repeated awakenings, each corresponding to ascending to even higher layers and ultimately approaching the reality beyond the dream structure itself. From this perspective, the infinite recursive hierarchy of dreams within dreams can reasonably be placed at 1-A+ while IT as the dormant yet foundational entity stands beyond and above the totality of these dreams, transcending the entire collection as a whole.

《それ》にとって現在と呼ぶことができるものがあったとしたなら、過去と未来が好き放題に絡み合って可能性の限りを尽くした、あらゆる夢の集合体というのが最も近い。

If there is something that can be called the present for "it," it would be closest to a collection of all dreams, where the past and future intertwine freely, exploring every possibility to the fullest.

Ultima cannot awaken from it no matter what.

《それ》は夢から醒さめる夢から醒め、またその夢から醒める夢を見ていた。夢の中で夢を見てまた夢見ていた。どこまでいってもその繰り返しに果てはなく、《それ》が見ているものは決して醒めることのできない夢で、誰も入り込むことのできない夢とも言えた。

"It" was dreaming of waking up from a dream, waking up again from that dream, and so on. In the dream, it was dreaming and dreaming again. No matter how far it went, this repetition had no end, and what "it" was seeing could be said to be a dream from which one could never wake, and also a dream into which no one could enter.

Therefore, it should be upgraded to H1-A.

Therefore, the Omega Point remains at L1-A, as it constitutes spacetime as a whole. However, Ultima after tearing the Omega Point reaches 1-A. The endless layers of dreams represent infinite layers of R>F (Reality > Fiction), qualifying as 1-A+. Meanwhile, IT, which transcends the entirety of dreams, represents the ultimate future that Ultima can never attain, placing it at H1-A.

Dreams Within Dreams

The dream of Godzilla, as framed by the nature of the Omega Point, can be understood as encompassing an uncountably infinite collection of infinite-dimensional parallel universes. Descriptions provided through Jet Jaguar, particularly the reference to “all conceivable possibilities,” further support interpreting this construct through the lens of expansive modal realism, where every possible state of reality is realized within the dream.

Crucially, however, this dream does not represent the highest level of existence. It is itself only a subset within a larger Ultima’s dream, forming a recursive structure in which dreams are nested within ever-greater dreams without end. In this hierarchy, true ontological primacy does not belong to any individual dream layer, but rather to what exists beyond all such layers at the ultimate apex.

To properly establish this framework, it is therefore necessary to first clarify what is meant by the term “dream” within this cosmology.

現実は記憶であって、記憶は現実と変わるところが何もなかった。

Reality is memory, and memory is no different from reality.

《それ》は、過去の夢を見ており、過去において未来の夢を見ており、過去において未来の 夢を見るという夢を未来において見続けていた。

"IT" saw the past in the dream, saw the future in the past, and continued to dream about seeing the future in the future.

From this we understand that dreams are IT's memories. IT is Ultima's past, future, and present.

The spacetime framework of the singular point's cosmology allows the future to precede the past. Ultima and IT exist in mutual causality. Through ceaseless combat and destruction, Ultima grows, experiences all possibilities, and advances toward the future until it transcends all possibility and impossibility to become IT, slumbering at time's foundation. Meanwhile, IT dreams its own past into being.

The second sentence implies infinite dream hierarchy where every ultima is another ultima's dream, with each dream layer containing infinite nested dreams.

《それ》は夢から醒さめる夢から醒め、またその夢から醒める夢を見ていた。夢の中で夢を見てまた夢見ていた。どこまでいってもその繰り返しに果てはなく、《それ》が見ているものは決して醒めることのできない夢で、誰も入り込むことのできない夢とも言えた。

“It” wakes up from the dream of “waking up from a dream”, and then continues to dream of “waking up from a dream”. There are dreams within dreams, and dreams within dreams. This cycle will never end. What “it” sees is a dream that it can never wake up from, and a dream that no one can set foot in.

This passage suggests that the structure of dreams is fundamentally endless, where even what is described as an “awakening” is still contained within the dream itself. Although the Omega Point acts as a vessel that allows Ultima to transition into another universe, such an awakening involves rupturing the Omega Point to traverse universes. However, this transition does not represent a true exit from the dream, as it remains only a fragment within the dream of a greater Ultima.

From this perspective, the distinction between different dream layers is not merely quantitative, such as having more space, time, or universes. Instead, each layer represents a qualitative transcendence over the previous one, operating on a fundamentally higher ontological level. These qualitative leaps are not limited in number and can be understood as extending through at least an infinite hierarchy of layers.

At the apex of this structure exists IT, which perceives the entirety of these nested layers as a single, unified dream. From this position, IT is capable of observing all possible pasts and futures simultaneously, standing beyond the recursive chain of dreams that defines the rest of the cosmology.
